Throughout my career I have worked with several projects and have written business proposal many times. But I faced difficulty while handling a business case in Cognizant when I was in a project with the client Six Financial Information, one of the largest financial data vendors in the world. They sought Cognizant’s help for redesigning their core business system which was written in assembly language , a technology that is fast and prudent but difficult to maintain. The client wanted to convert it to new technology while maintaining the durability, execution speed and robustness. The client themselves had very less idea about the Market Data Processing System at the granular level mainly because documentation was not done properly  during the design and modification of the system and majority of the coders were either retired or on the verge of retirement. It was necessary to do a reverse-engineering of the entire system to disinter the intricacies. Our team was engaged into preparing the route which will be followed throughout the entire project and I was given the responsibility of preparing the business proposal and the presentation to be produced in front of the client.

We ran a POC to showcase the client the approach we are going to follow. Since we were dealing with two unrelated technologies, we had to decide a transition technology which will enable smooth transition. We finally decided that all the rules and processing logics will be converted to algorithms written in plain and simple English along with pictorial representations where converting into English seemed too complex. Because of so many unknowns it was very difficult to identify the process to be followed and estimate the cost and effort required. We prepared tools to find out patterns and the way the system is designed and calculated efforts on the basis of that. We successfully completed the re-engineer phase by December last year. This project was first of its kind in our organization and completion ensured the organization’s flexibility. Our team was highly appreciated both by higher management of our organization and the client and  was announced in the “Dream Team” for that quarter. I was also awarded “Exceeding All” – the highest possible rating in our organization for that year.
