As the assistant professor and department coordinator of Heritage Institute of Technology, I have had the pleasure of knowing Tanmoy Mitra for the three years he spent in our college and beyond. Tanmoy, a creative, intelligent, and perceptive young man – came to our college committed to capitalize on the opportunity of studying a master degree in Computer Applications. As his teacher I have seen him grow in learning, in character, and in depth of understanding during these years. Tanmoy is a keen learner, good listener and a team player. During the three years that he studied in our institution he used every opportunity to learn new things in each and every area of his life, whether in innovating new ideas, exchanging thoughts and philosophy, or interacting to his fellow students and his teachers.
With his exceptional organizational capabilities, Tanmoy successfully completed multiple tasks at the same time with favorable results. I have seen him participating actively in all the classes taken by me and also heard good feedback about him from other faculty members frequently. Because of his keen learning capability and eagerness to implement theoretical concepts to practical solutions, in each semester used to be amongst the top performers in the practical sessions. Apart from regular academic activities, he kept himself busy in participating in educational events organized by other institutions and corporations. Even more, during the same time he played for a band which played in several venues in the city regularly. At the same time Tanmoy has been strongly active in all the social events in the college in which he not only was part of the organizing bodies but also performed himself in various sections.
Tanmoy has a natural leadership quality and an inherent organizational skill which he demonstrated in several occasions during his stint with our institution. He organized sessions to counsel and guide new and prospective students of our college – some of the participants took time to inform me about his ability to guide and to inspire. He articulated ideas through critical thinking, problem solving abilities, and general learning outcomes. Tanmoy lead the team that was chosen for the final semester dissertation of six months in CMC Computer Education, education wing of CMC Ltd., a subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services and his good work enabled him to get selected for a full time job there upon completion of the dissertation. I was associated with him in many other educational activities and have seen him to organize, plan, and motivate others. In this context I would especially mention his participation in the campus connect program in his 2nd year organized by Infosys, a leading IT company ,where he performed brilliantly and had the first-hand experience of real projects. With a commendable sincerity, he not only worked hard for all the assignments and projects and completed them immaculately within the set timeline but also helped his fellow classmates whenever needed.
His qualities differentiate him from others in our college. He communicated clearly, effectively and appropriately with all variety of individual and group and employed reasoned analysis to interpret and structure arguments both within and outside the boundary of class. His academic performance in our institute was praiseworthy. But, He never limited himself to study and assignments; rather he conducted several educational events in the college, set up social awareness campaigns and organized several ice-breaking sessions for the fresh joiners to the college. Being a regular performer in the college events he was very popular amongst college students.
